Green Tea and Polyphenols
Does green tea contain polyphenols?
Every kind of tea has some polyphenols in
it; some have more and some less. Green tea processing attempts
to retain all polyphenols in their most reactive form in the
final processed green tea. That means green tea has great
antioxidant potential. Many studies have shown that green tea
has the highest polyphenol content. Comparing polyphenols in
green tea vs Oolong tea and Black tea, green tea has the most
polyphenols and black tea has the least while Oolong hovers in
the middle in terms of polyphenol content.

Antioxidant and Green tea
Green tea has been shown to improve the
antioxidant capability of the blood, more than black tea or
Oolong tea. The increased in antioxidant function is more
effective within 30 minutes for green tea and 50 minutes for
black tea. The polyphenols in green tea are absorbed easily by
the body for use.
Other uses of green tea polyphenols
Polyphenols in powdered green tea as well as
green tea extract disarm the potentially deadly singlet oxygen.
The more green tea you drink, the more polyphenols in green tea
you have to protect yourself against harmful single oxygen.
Fresh green tea extract or powered green tea offers better
protection than stale green tea, of course. The green tea
polyphenols also help quench hydrogen peroxide and superoxide
free radicals, making the body function better.
Green tea polyphenols also prevent
cardiovascular disease by shielding LDL cholesterol from
changes that can cause heart disease. Green tea polyphenols
also neutralize free radicals before genetic mutation can
occur, thus reducing the risk of cancer. There are many other
health benefits of green tea polyphenols.
